Character Name: Hong Lu
Canon: Limbus Company
Canon History: character page (it's not a fandom wiki this time, rejoice)

Canon Personality: Hong Lu comes off at first as extremely naive, facing the world with an open sense of childlike wonder that often feels out of place in the situations to which he tends to react. It lends him the airs of a sheltered rich kid who doesn't understand how the world beyond the walls of high society works, and in many ways, that is exactly what he is. He never gets angry or overly excited about things, choosing instead to smile politely and nod along no matter what anyone says to or about him. It doesn't bother him! Why don't we talk about something else for a while so everyone stops worrying about how many assassination attempts he just said he has personally experienced!

Underneath the layers and layers of deflection and masking, Hong Lu has long repressed any of his real feelings almost to the point of numbness. He doesn't feel like he has any free will of his own, having had his life dictated by others for so long, and struggles with doing anything of his own volition. It's easier for someone else to tell him what to do, so he doesn't have to think too hard about it himself.

Despite everything else, Hong Lu maintains a reserved, insightful outlook, often reading into his companions' feelings before they've had a chance to properly come to understand them themselves. Though he doesn't often give voice to the things that he observes, it can be assured that he can pick up on the little things in others' demeanor quite easily, and come to understand them or the situation better through it.

AU Name: N/A
AU Age: 31
AU Birthday: June 6th

AU History: Hong Lu's parents passed away when he was very young, and so he grew up alongside his siblings in the care of his grandmother instead. He was raised with the intent of one day inheriting the family business, a large biomedical engineering corporation based primarily in China. When he turned 20, rather than put his head down and focus hard on learning the ins and outs of managing the business, Hong Lu left behind his childhood home and his family and instead moved to a new country, settling down for a time in Austria. He insisted that it was nothing more than wanderlust, that he wanted to get the childish fantasies of travel out of his head before he could commit properly to his future. In truth, he felt trapped by the idea of staying at home forever, living a life that was made for him, rather than forging his own.

Over the following several years, he would move from place to place, and country to country, never fully able to settle down or get comfortable living by himself. In every new home that he carved out, he would collect a memento of his time spent there in the form of a clock. Wall clocks, desk clocks, pocket watches, even an ornate English grandfather clock; he couldn't explain what drew him to timepieces, of all things, but they brought him a small sort of comfort that he knew he couldn't find anywhere else.

Eventually, Hong Lu could no longer refuse his grandmother's insistence that he become involved with their company, and so begrudgingly took up a role as a sort of international ambassador. His life, then, became once again shackled to his seemingly inevitable future, no longer filled with travel for the sake of travel. This would be ultimately what lead his path to Kaisou, moving into the city in order to help facilitate a partnership between a stateside medical company and his own. He's lived in America for only about a year, up to this point, moving across the country only recently in order to be closer to his future collaborators. He doesn't know what to expect of this new city, but also dreads growing attached to it, for fear of having to leave it all behind again when his grandmother has yet another new venture for him to undertake.

AU Personality Differences: AU Hong Lu will be naturally much less desensitized to violence than in canon! He's just some guy, and not the prince of a dynastic Chinese noble family. He'd also be a good bit more familiar with the world around him, by virtue of having lived in so many different places already.
